A year as a florist in south east London
Another year is drawing to a close and it's been a busy and rewarding one with so much variety. I've learned so much in such a short time and feel so much more confident going into next year. So much so, I have taken the step to give up my other job which is a little scary but I just want to do what I love and give it my all.
I have been busy working on expanding Floral Jems and hope to keep growing other areas as well as my wedding work. I'm launching an exciting project with Spinach on Lordship Lane taking on floral workshops for hen parties, stag parties, baby showers, birthdays etc etc. But even more awesome is that this is combined with a cocktail masterclass plus a package of bubbly and delicious food provided by Spinach. We're confident no one else has a package quite like this at the moment and we're really excited to try it out. Click here to find out more and make an enquiry.
I've also just launched my prop hire page. We have a range of items you can hire or have made bespoke including initial plaques, vases, jam jars, various slightly quirky props. I'm constantly on the lookout for new pieces and will be updating the website and social media regularly. Everything is scavenged from charity shops, the streets, boot sales and flea markets or upcycled by myself and my talented wife Kate. I’m really l keen to continue and develop being an ethical florist to the highest degree possible. Take a look at some examples of pieces we have to hire or buy here.
My other new venture is more sombre but I had the privilege of creating the flowers for my Grandmother’s funeral. I haven’t done much in the way of funeral work before, other than in my training and when I worked at a local florists last year and I thought it too sad to do as a job but actually it’s an honour to help a family say goodbye to their dear loved ones and I hope to be doing more of this work over the next year. I like to create bespoke and interesting designs that are maybe a little different from the normal funeral flowers. Click here to have a look at some example pieces and make an enquiry.
And of course, I have lots of weddings to look forward to. Orders are definitely starting to pick up and I've been lucky to have such a lovely bunch of brides and grooms in 2017 who have trusted me to bring something special to their day and every one of them has been fabulous to work with. I don't think there's one of them I wouldn't go for a g&t with!
